About Watson Mill Bridge State Park

A wooden covered bridge stretching 229 feet over the South Fork of the Broad River anchors this 1,018-acre property, and it holds the distinction of being Georgia's longest covered bridge still standing on its original site. Built in 1885, the structure relies on a lattice-style truss held together with wooden pegs rather than nails, and it is recognized on the National Register of Historic Places along with the surrounding mill district. Georgia once had more than 200 such bridges, and only about 20 remain today. Visitors can also walk a nature trail or a newer combined hiking and riding path that runs through forest along the riverbank.
