About Old Mission State Park
Built between 1850 and 1853, the Mission of the Sacred Heart, also called the Cataldo Mission, stands as the oldest building still in place in Idaho. The park protects this church along with its parish house and the surrounding grounds, preserving a National Historic Landmark that was recognized in 1961 and added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1966. What visitors find here is the mission complex itself rather than open wilderness or a lake.
