About General Burnside State Park

Ambrose E. Burnside, a Union general during the Civil War, stationed troops at the site that now bears his name. The park sits on a 430-acre island in the middle of Lake Cumberland, the only park of its kind in Kentucky. It occupies land surrounded entirely by the lake's waters, a fact that shapes access and setting alike.
