About Fayette Historic State Park
A reconstructed 19th-century industrial town sits along Snail Shell Harbor and Sand Bay on Big Bay de Noc, part of Lake Michigan. The site preserves the buildings of a community that produced charcoal pig iron from 1867 to 1891, now presented as a living museum showing life in that era. Its historical significance was recognized with a listing on the National Register of Historic Places in 1970.
