About Fisherman's Island State Park
Six miles of Lake Michigan shoreline stretch through this 2,678-acre tract, backed by rolling dunes covered in maple, birch and aspen, with pockets of cedar and black spruce bog further inland. The park takes its name from a small landmass about 900 feet offshore, which for most years between 1998 and 2016 connected to the mainland by a sandbar formed during periods of unusually low lake levels. The Michigan Department of Natural Resources manages the grounds.
