About Lake Shetek State Park
Fifteen white settlers killed on August 20, 1862 are memorialized here, at the site tied to the Dakota War, along with an original log cabin still standing in the park. The park sits on Lake Shetek itself, the largest lake in southwestern Minnesota and the point where the Des Moines River begins. Beyond this history, the park is used mainly for water recreation and camping on the lake's shores.
