About First Peoples Buffalo Jump State Park
A sandstone cliff here served for generations as the Ulm Pishkun, a buffalo jump where Native American tribes drove bison over the edge to harvest meat, hides, and other resources. Geographically, it has been called either the largest buffalo jump in North America or in the world, with some evidence suggesting it was the most heavily used one anywhere. The 1,481-acre site sits at 3,773 feet elevation and was named a National Historic Landmark in 2015, decades after joining the National Register of Historic Places in 1974.
