About Tower Rock State Park
A 424-foot rock formation marks the entrance to the Missouri River Canyon within the Adel Mountains Volcanic Field. The Piegan Blackfeet regarded it as a sacred place, and Meriwether Lewis named it during his 1805 visit with the Lewis and Clark Expedition. Later railroad and highway construction bypassed the formation, leaving it undisturbed, and the surrounding 87.2 acres were listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2002 before the 140-acre park was established around it in 2004.
