About Cathedral Gorge State Park

Erosion carved soft bentonite clay into narrow slot canyons and cathedral-like spires here, spread across nearly 1,800 acres. The park sits along U.S. Route 93 at the western end of State Route 319, near Panaca, and was set aside to preserve this clay formation landscape rather than a lake, forest, or battlefield site. It functions as both a public recreation area and a geologic preserve.
