Homesteaded in 1873, the land that became this park sits at the northern end of Rainbow Canyon along Nevada State Route 317. The park covers 265 acres and was set aside for public recreation within that canyon setting. Its position at the canyon's north end places it within a landscape shaped by the surrounding rock walls.
