About Newtown Battlefield State Park
A decisive Revolutionary War clash unfolded here in August 1779, when General John Sullivan's forces defeated the Haudenosaunee in the only major battle of the Sullivan Expedition. The 372-acre park preserves part of that ground, land recognized as a National Historic Landmark since 1965. Nearby, the American Battlefield Trust and partners have separately protected more than 68 additional acres adjoining the park.
