A 700-acre millpond dating back roughly two centuries anchors this 3,520-acre park, its still water bordering Lassiter Swamp and its stands of cypress. Canoeing draws most visitors onto the pond and into the swamp, where the water and trees create the park's dominant scenery. Alligators inhabit the cypress swamps within the park's boundaries, a detail tied to this particular stretch of coastal plain terrain.
