About Ecola State Park

Tillamook and Clatsop people occupied this stretch of coastline for thousands of years before European settlers arrived. Members of the Lewis and Clark Expedition named a nearby creek "Ecola," a Chinook Jargon word for whale, and that name carried over to the park. Oregon Parks and Recreation Department administers the land, which is also incorporated into Lewis and Clark National Historical Park.
