About Lake Mineral Wells State Park & Trailway
3,282.5 acres surround a lake and a stretch of Western Cross Timbers woodland that this park is the only one in the state charged with protecting. Penitentiary Hollow, a canyon-like rock formation within the grounds, draws climbers who use top rope routes there. Over 31 miles of trails wind through the property, with 25 of those miles open to both bicycles and horses, and campsites sit near the lake as well as on the park's higher ground.
