About Grayson Highlands State Park

Adjacent to the Mount Rogers National Recreation Area and set within the Jefferson National Forest, this 4,502-acre park was set aside in 1965. Its grounds carry a 2.8-mile stretch of the Appalachian Trail along with other routes for hiking and horseback riding, and support camping, mountain biking, and backpacking. Beyond the trails, the park hosts the Grayson Highlands Fall Festival, weekly folk jam sessions rooted in Blue Ridge musical traditions, and the Wayne C. Henderson Festival and Guitar Competition, named for the local guitar maker.
