About Elk Knob State Park

Preserving the natural condition of a peak that ranks third highest in its area was the reason for setting aside this land in 2003, making it one of the newer additions to the state system. The protected ground spans 4,423 acres in the Blue Ridge Mountains, reached by Meat Camp Road off North Carolina Highway 194. It remains open for recreation throughout the year, and its facilities are currently being expanded to offer visitors more opportunities on the mountain.
