About Mayo River State Park

Land along the North and South Forks of the Mayo River was set aside to protect this river corridor on the Virginia side of the state line, with the park entrance sitting in Spencer. It borders a similarly named park across the line in North Carolina, so the protected river frontage continues beyond Virginia's boundary. The two forks of the Mayo River run through the property, giving it its shape and its name.
