About Gulf State Park
Alabama's conservation department set aside 6,150 acres behind the Gulf Shores beach community, stretching from Highway 59 to SH 161 with a broader stretch of shoreline at the west end. The protected ground mixes beach, marsh, tea-colored streams, and pine forest around three spring-fed freshwater lakes: Lake Shelby, Middle Lake, and Little Lake. Rangers patrol the grounds continuously and enforce rules against littering.
