About Tarkiln Bayou Preserve State Park

Wet prairie habitat here shelters four species of endangered pitcher plants, including the carnivorous white-top pitcher plant, a species found only along the stretch of coast between the Apalachicola and Mississippi rivers. Nearly 100 other rare plants and animals rely on this habitat, among them the alligator snapping turtle, sweet pitcher plant, and Chapman's butterwort. The preserve covers 4,549.15 acres in northwestern Florida.
