About Kartchner Caverns State Park

A limestone cave system runs 2.4 miles beneath the ground here, its passages kept out of sight until local cavers found the entrance in 1974. A state biologist, Erick Campbell, took part in the effort to protect the discovery once it became known. The park sits west of the north-flowing San Pedro River, and the underground formations remain the main feature to see.
