About La Purísima Mission State Historic Park

Founded by Franciscan missionaries in 1787, the mission originally stood south of Lompoc until an 1812 earthquake destroyed the complex, forcing its rebuilding a few miles to the northeast at the present location. The park preserves this rebuilt mission, Mission La Purísima Concepción, one of the chain of Spanish missions established in California. Visitors can see the reconstructed mission grounds that replaced the original earthquake-damaged site.
