One of Florida's 33 first magnitude springs sits within this park, a designation that by 2008 had become largely historical as water emission levels dropped below the threshold that once defined it. The spring itself is the park's central feature, drawing its water from the aquifer along US 19/98. The site preserves this spring as its main protected natural feature.
