About Lake Jackson Archaeological State Park

Mounds built by pre-Columbian people are protected within this site, part of a statewide system that spans sites ranging from ancient archaeological grounds to first-magnitude springs and barrier islands. The park falls under Florida's network of 176 units covering more than 819,000 acres across most of the state's counties, a system established in 1935. Some of these units, including this one, hold designation as National Natural Landmarks.
