The St. Marks River disappears into a series of sinkholes here, running underground for about 0.6 miles through a cave system before resurfacing at the St. Marks River Rise just beyond the park boundary. The site preserves the ground where this natural bridge crossing figured in a Civil War engagement. The park covers 2,121.37 acres, encompassing both the sinkhole feature and the surrounding battlefield land.
