About John Tanner State Park

138 acres of land hold two lakes, a 12-acre pond and a 16-acre lake, alongside the largest sand beach found at any Georgia state park. A walking and nature trail runs through the property for those staying on land. The site takes its name from John Tanner, who ran it as a private swimming spot called Tanner's Beach from 1954 to 1971, and county government took over its operation in 2010, buying it outright in 2013.
