About Point Lookout State Park

The Point Lookout Light, built in 1830, stands on the spit of land where the Potomac River meets the Chesapeake Bay. The park occupies this southernmost tip of a peninsula, marking the southernmost point on Maryland's western shore, and preserves the grounds of a Civil War prisoner of war camp that once held captives on the site.
