About South Cape Beach State Park

A barrier beach and dune system separates Waquoit Bay from Vineyard Sound, forming the shoreline visitors reach first. Salt marsh, scrub oak and pitch pine woodland, and kettle ponds spread inland from there, all part of the Waquoit Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve. The Department of Conservation and Recreation manages the land, which sits in the town of Mashpee.
