About Mackinac Island State Park
Eighteen hundred acres of Mackinac Island, roughly four-fifths of its total land, fall within this park's boundaries, making it overlap with the city of Mackinac Island itself, where permanent residents live inside the park. The island bans automobiles, so M-185, which circles the park's perimeter, functions as the state's only highway with no motor traffic allowed. On July 15, 2009, the park recorded its 20 millionth visitor.
