About Lake Vermilion-Soudan Underground Mine State Park

Minnesota's oldest, deepest, and richest iron mine sits within this park, on the south shore of Lake Vermilion in the Vermilion Range. The site once held the Soudan Underground Laboratory and carries a designation as a U.S. National Historic Landmark under the name Soudan Iron Mine. The park protects both the underground mine workings and the surrounding lake shoreline.
