About Monson Lake State Park

Thirteen Swedish American pioneers killed during the Dakota War of 1862 are memorialized at this site, which was set aside in their honor. A cluster of 1930s New Deal era buildings here is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Even after roughly doubling its acreage in 2009, the park ranks among Minnesota's smallest, and it operates on a seasonal staffing basis under the administration of nearby Sibley State Park.
