About Roan Mountain State Park

Protection efforts here focused on 2,006 acres of mostly hardwood forest in the Blue Ridge section of the Appalachian Mountains, close to the North Carolina border. The land sits near the 6,285-foot summit of Roan Mountain and the Appalachian Trail, both managed by the US Forest Service, not the state park itself. On clear days, the Charlotte skyline can be seen and photographed from that peak. Much of the surrounding community remains privately held, with area land passed down through families for generations.

Hours, fees, camping, reservations and closures are set by the park and change often. Check the official park site before you go.
