About Lumber River State Park
A 115-mile stretch of the Lumber River runs through this park, a blackwater waterway that is the only one of its kind in North Carolina to carry a National Wild and Scenic River designation from the Department of the Interior. The park spans 13,659 acres across the Coastal Plain, reaching into Scotland, Hoke, Robeson and Columbus counties. Alongside its federal status, the state also named the river a Natural and Scenic River when the park was created.
