Quarrying and lime-kiln operations once covered this ground on Kelleys Island, and their ruins still stand within the park's 677 acres. The land occupies a quarter of the island itself, set in Lake Erie, with six miles of hiking trails, a sand beach, and a campground. Nearby, the park works with other agencies to manage adjoining sites protecting rare glacial grooves, an alvar habitat, and a lake embayment separated from the water by a sand bar.
