About Benson State Recreation Area
A day-use area sits along the Historic Columbia River Highway, built around Benson Lake, a spring-fed pond formed when the highway's construction cut off a section of floodplain from the Columbia River. The lake and surrounding grounds are managed by the Oregon Parks and Recreation Department. Visitors can view the water and the wooded setting created by that roadwork.
