3,002 acres of Pennsylvania land surround Beltzville Lake, an impoundment built around the Beltzville Dam, a U.S. Army Corps of Engineers flood control project on Pohopoco Creek. The park sits across Franklin and Towamensing townships. Its lake covers ground where the village of Big Creek Valley once stood before residents left in 1966 to make way for the water.
