About French Creek State Park

Land within the Hopewell Big Woods was set aside to preserve forest surrounding French Creek, and the surrounding acreage still encircles the Hopewell Furnace National Historic Site, a cold blast furnace restored to its 1830s condition. Spanning 7,730 acres across Chester and Berks Counties, the park holds two lakes, the 68-acre Hopewell Lake and the 22-acre Scotts Run Lake, where the state record smallmouth bass was pulled from its cold water. Almost 40 miles of trails cross the forest for hikers, equestrians and mountain bikers, and the Six Penny Day Use Area and Group Camp carry a listing on the National Register of Historic Places.
