About Alapocas Run State Park

359 acres of land along Brandywine Creek and its Alapocas Run tributary make up this park, much of it preserved as open space by William Poole Bancroft in the early 1900s before it expanded into city parkland. Walking trails, athletic fields, and playgrounds sit alongside a rock climbing wall built into an old quarry across from Bancroft Mills, a site also used for earth science education programs. The grounds include the Blue Ball Barn, a dairy barn built in 1914 by Alfred I. du Pont as part of his Nemours estate.
