About Colorado Bend State Park

State purchase of the property in 1984 preceded its opening to the public three years later, under management by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department. The park spans 5,328.3 acres along the Colorado River, with a smaller portion of the tract lying across the county line in Lampasas County, where there is no public access. Most of the acreage sits on the river itself, giving the park its name and its defining geographic feature.
