About Longhorn Cavern State Park

Land acquired from private owners between 1932 and 1937 became the basis for this 645-acre park, opened to the public in 1938. The cave at its core was named a National Natural Landmark in 1971, and the administration building earned Recorded Texas Historic Landmark status in 1989. The park protects the cavern and the grounds built up around it during that formative decade.
