Woodland, meadow, and swamp make up most of the 1,862 acres here, with some sections still actively farmed. The grounds include the former Mt. Bleak-Skye Farm, listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2004, situated in the Blue Ridge Mountains. The park also holds International Dark Sky Park status, a designation tied to its position roughly an hour from the Washington, D.C. metro region.
