About Iron Horse State Park

A former railway roadbed of the Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul & Pacific Railroad forms the surface here, converted into a long-distance rail trail after the line's abandonment. The corridor, once called the John Wayne Pioneer Trail and the Iron Horse Trail, runs 300 miles across two-thirds of Washington, connecting the western slopes of the Cascade Mountains to the Idaho border. This stretch of the route crosses the former rail grade as it passes through the state's interior.
