About Columbia State Historic Park

Gold Rush merchants and residents built the downtown that still stands here, and the park preserves almost 30 of those original structures rather than reconstructions. Federal recognition came in 1961, when the district was declared a National Historic Landmark. What remains is a full historic commercial center from that era, not a single building or ruin, offering a look at the built environment of a Gold Rush town largely intact.
