About Doheny State Beach

San Juan Creek runs southwest from the Santa Ana Mountains and meets the Pacific here, forming a fresh-water lagoon at the shoreline. This stretch of coast was the first state beach added to the California state park system, and it sits alongside surf spots and stretches of sand including Salt Creek Beach, Baby Beach, and Capistrano Beach. The break at the creek mouth draws surfers along with the neighboring beaches.
