About Point Mugu State Park
Steep, hard-to-access cliffs along the western Santa Monica Mountains drop into tidal lagoons and coastal sand dunes near Mugu Rock. The park sits within the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area, and its western boundary borders Mugu Lagoon, a protected wetland inside Naval Air Station Point Mugu. The shoreline here is described as rugged and largely impassable, shaping a coastline of rock, dune, and lagoon rather than open beach access throughout.
