About Lums Pond State Park

The Chesapeake and Delaware Canal Company built the pond by damming St. Georges Creek, creating a water supply to fill the canal's locks as they linked the Chesapeake Bay with the Delaware River in the early 1800s. The 1,790-acre park now surrounds that impoundment, Lums Pond, which gives the park its name and its central feature. Recreation here runs year-round across the grounds bordering the water.
