About Fort DuPont State Park

A former harbor defense installation, the fort stood alongside two others guarding the Delaware River and the water route to Philadelphia from 1900 through 1942. It sits on the original Reeden Point tract, land granted to Henry Ward in 1675, between old Delaware City and the Chesapeake and Delaware Canal. A section of the grounds was set aside as a state park in 1992, becoming Delaware's 13th, while the remaining acreage was later annexed into Delaware City in 2016.
