About Yulee Sugar Mill Ruins State Historic Site

The stone and machinery here are what remain of a forced-labor sugar farm built by David Levy Yulee, a Florida territorial legislator who later became the first Jewish American elected to the United States Senate. He went on to serve in the Confederate Congress and to build out a railroad network credited with boosting the state's economy. The ruins are the surviving physical trace of that operation.
