About Dade Battlefield Historic State Park

Pine flatwoods and a live oak hammock cover the 80 acres where Seminole and Black Seminole fighters clashed with soldiers led by Major Francis L. Dade on December 28, 1835, an engagement that opened the Second Seminole War. The ground is preserved as the Dade Massacre site. Each year on the weekend after Christmas, the Dade Battlefield Society stages a reenactment of that battle on the same land.
