The Mount Aventine mansion and its grounds anchor this stretch of land along the Potomac River, preserved after the state bought the historic Chapman family estate. The property's wooded terrain supports rare and disjunct plant and animal species, and several trees here have been nominated for state and national big tree champion status. Visitors can fish, hunt, or walk several miles of hiking trails through the grounds.
