Nearly 3,934 acres make up this public recreation area, land named for two small rising hills that broke the flatness of the surrounding Missouri countryside. The name itself comes from Latin, with "noster" meaning "our," so the park's namesake translates to "our hill," a nod to a local belief that the hills marked fallen warriors. The grounds allow camping, hiking, and fishing throughout the year under the Missouri Department of Natural Resources.
